Description
Grey Sands is a boutique, family owned & operated vineyard, located 7.5km from Exeter, on the Frankford Road (a back road to Devonport) in northern Tasmania and has stunning views towards the Tamar Valley.
We began establishing the vineyard in 1989, having our first Grey Sands wines in 1998. Being a 'dry grown' vineyard, it took a little longer to get into production, but we think our wines are worth waiting for. Our wines are very concentrated, intensely flavoured and mouth filling. We make 10 different wines from the 17 different varieties grown in our vineyard, though not all of them from each vintage...depends on the season!
The wines we make each vintage are Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Byzantine ( a chardonnay/malvasia/viognier blend) Pinot Noir, Merlot & The Mattock (a merlot/malbec/cabernet franc blend). Depending on the season we also produce a Malbec, Shiraz, & a Romanesque (a blend of late ripening red varieties)
We have a large (1.5Ha) established 'collectors' garden, that has been planted to have 'something of interest' throughout the growing season.
We are open for wine tastings and garden walks the first weekend of each month from October to April inclusive, some additional times as advertised on our website or Facebook page or by appointment. BYO picnic to enjoy in the garden with some of our wines.
